Car turntable size: how much space do you need?

Plan a clear, level area of 6 × 6 m. A YilPlat car turntable has a 4.3 m rotating disc, measures 5.0 m across including its ramps and stands 8.5 cm off the floor. Keep at least 3 m from the centre of the turntable to any wall, pillar or parked car, so that a long car can turn without touching anything. Almost every car, SUV and pick-up on sale turns within that circle; for the very longest limousines, allow a little more room.

Why 6 × 6 m: the turning circle

A car on a turntable sweeps a circle set by its diagonal, the distance from one front corner to the opposite rear corner, not by its length. With the car centred on the disc and 3 m clear in every direction, any car whose diagonal is under 6 m turns without touching a wall. Some examples, from manufacturers' figures excluding mirrors, rounded:

McLaren 750S4.6 × 1.9 mabout 5.0 m
Lamborghini Huracán4.5 × 1.9 mabout 4.9 m
Lamborghini Urus5.1 × 2.0 mabout 5.5 m
Range Rover, long wheelbase5.25 × 2.05 mabout 5.6 m
Mercedes-Benz S-Class, long wheelbase5.3 × 1.95 mabout 5.6 m
Rolls-Royce Phantom Extended6.0 × 2.0 mabout 6.3 m: allow more room

Leave a margin for open mirrors and for people standing nearby. If your longest car is over 6 m corner to corner, give the turntable more room, or send us the model and we will check the fit.

Height and ramps

The deck stands 8.5 cm above the floor and ramps run all the way round it. Every ramp is reinforced, so a car can drive on and off from any side except over the four ramps that cover the motors. Plan a straight approach from the door; the drive-on line is marked on the plan above.

The floor

The floor needs to be level, dry and load-bearing. Concrete, epoxy, tile, marble and parquet all work. Nothing is drilled or fixed, and the floor is left as it was when the turntable comes off. On an upper floor or a mezzanine, check the load capacity with your building's engineer first: the frame is about a tonne of galvanised steel and the platform is rated for cars up to 5,000 kg. A pit is not an option there, which is one more reason surface-mounted turntables suit more buildings.

Power and control

The control panel mounts on a wall and plugs into a standard 13 A socket, so put the turntable within reach of one. Two Bluetooth remotes with an 8 m range let a salesperson turn the car from beside the customer.

Getting it into the showroom

The turntable arrives in crates and is assembled on the spot from its hub, arms, eleven panels and ramps, so there is no single large piece to manoeuvre through the door. Our team installs it in about 2.5 hours; see how a car turntable is installed.

Measure your showroom in five minutes

  1. Mark where the centre of the turntable will go.
  2. Measure from that mark to the nearest wall, pillar, door frame and display car: each needs at least 3 m.
  3. Check the floor is level with a long spirit level.
  4. Find the nearest 13 A socket.
  5. Take one photo from the door and one from the far corner, and send them to us with your measurements.

We reply within one working day with a scaled placement plan showing where the turntable fits.

Questions dealers ask

How big is a car turntable?

A YilPlat car turntable has a 4.3 m rotating disc, measures 5.0 m across including its ramps and stands 8.5 cm high. It needs a level area of 6 × 6 m.

How much space do I need around a car turntable?

At least 3 m from the centre of the turntable to any wall or obstacle. That leaves a clear 6 m circle, enough for almost every car on sale to turn.

Will a long-wheelbase car, an SUV or a pick-up fit?

In almost every case. Long-wheelbase saloons and SUVs measure about 5.6 m corner to corner, inside the 6 m circle, and the platform is rated for 5,000 kg. For extended limousines, send us the model and we will check the fit.

Can a car turntable go on an upper floor?

Yes, if the floor can take the load. YilPlat needs no pit, so it can go where a recessed turntable cannot, such as an upper-floor showroom or a mezzanine. Check the floor's load capacity with your building's engineer first.
